Dear friends, the long winter month of January should be complemented by interesting trips and experiences. On this occasion, we bring you suggestions about where are the best places to travel in January.
As always, Libellule brings you only quality and interesting suggestions. We chose places based on your different tastes and needs.
Last time we wrote suggestions for the month of December, so maybe you can take them into consideration if you haven’t already visited those places.
January, the magical month
For those who love winter and winter games on the snow, January is the month of dreams. It is a time when snow covers most of the northern hemisphere so beautiful mountains like the Alps become a real attraction, especially for winter sports fans.
If, on the other hand, you are winter-weary and prefer to spend the coldest month in the warmth of your home, that’s fine. Make it cozy and read Fly With Libellule. We have prepared interesting texts for you.
The beauty of winter travel
Traveling in the winter is a really special experience. You have the opportunity to feel the winter magic on your skin. There is only one condition that must be met in order for your trip to be pleasant – dress warmly!
We start our list with a city you probably haven’t heard of before. It is Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro. This small town with about 200 thousand inhabitants lies in a perfect location. In less than two hours if you go south you can reach the Adriatic Sea or if you go north to one of the fantastic mountains, such as Durmitor.
The town itself is still developing its tourist capacities, but the locations that are really worth visiting are the Church of Christ’s Resurrection and the remains of old Duklja. Podgorica is a good choice for those who prefer a passive type of vacation and who like to enjoy the natural beauty and warmth that this area abounds. See more about Podgorica TripAdvisor.
Les 3 Vallees, France
For lovers of true winter idyll, there is the fantastic Les 3 Vallees in Moutiers, France. This paradise for winter sports lovers with more than 600 km of ski slopes offers one of the longest ski areas in the world. If you add to that the natural beauties of the Alps in which this ski resort is located, then it is a real winter paradise!
You will enjoy a variety of off-piste terrain, a modern and efficient ski lift, impeccable resorts and accommodations, as well as good ski equipment and delicious food. Just pay attention to book as you can because prices can vary from accommodation to accommodation. See the hotel offer here. Also, if you don’t like crowds then choose another place from our diverse list.
Budapest is one of the most beautiful European capitals. The Hungarian beauty will delight you with its variety of architecture and special charm with which it radiates so that it can compete with great historical giants such as Rome or Paris.
What we would recommend you to visit first is the impressive building of the Hungarian Parliament that dominates the banks of the Danube and is the main symbol of Budapest. Then there’s Heroes Square and the Millennium Monument which you shouldn’t miss if you’re a photography lover.
Also, a place that is perfect for photography is Gelertovo hill, from where there is a perfect view of the city. Almost everywhere you turn there is some attraction like Buda Castle, the Citadel, and the Fisherman’s Baston. It is worth visiting this magnificent city. We suggest you see the accommodation offer TripAdvisor.
We are moving to the Alps again, in an ideal place to spend time with family and friends! Zermatt, in the Mattertal valley one of the most beautiful ski resorts in the world will provide you with an unforgettable winter. It is located on the border of Switzerland and Italy and is surrounded by 38 mountain peaks, some of which are high and over 4000 meters above sea level.
Zermatt is ideal for those who are more professional skiers because most of the trails are characterized as “demanding”. What will take your breath away when skiing and other snow activities is the Matterhorn. This fascinating rock is the most famous peak in Switzerland and rises above the valley with as much as 4478 meters.
After an active day, you can continue the fun in some of Zermatt’s cafes, pubs and restaurants or go shopping in one of the many boutiques. Find details on official website of Zermatt.
Washington, D.C, US
For the January trip, we suggest Washington, which is rich in various forms of architecture, and among the most important monuments are the White House, the Washington National Cathedral, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, the Capitol, the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and the Washington Monument. Different architectural styles can be noticed, from the neoclassical, through the Gothic and the modern.
In addition to monuments, Washington is also known for its museums. There are the Smithsonian Institution, the National Museum of Natural History, the National Museum of Space and Aviation, the National Museum of Art and Industry, and many others.
Washington is the main center of the American media, and it is home to the headquarters of the most famous news agencies such as the Washington Post, the Washington Times, National Geographic, and many others. It is an ideal city for lovers of passive single or family vacation who like to look around and do not like too cold weather. See the hotel offer on Trip Advisor.
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
If you love and can afford a little more luxurious vacation then Dubai is the perfect destination for you. Of course, the first thing to sing about is its biggest attraction, the Burj Khalifa, which vaporizes the sky in height. At its top, the temperature is lower by an average of 15 degrees Celsius than on the ground. The height is an amazing 830 meters and from its roof, you can see the whole city, maybe the whole world.
Be sure to visit the many theme parks, the most famous of which is an artificial island in the shape of a palm tree. It is built entirely of sand they move so the flaming branches have a constantly different shape. For those who do not like winter and cold weather, Dubai is an ideal destination because the temperatures are over 20 degrees Celsius even in January.
Just pay attention to the fact that there is no kissing and other intimate acts because there is a penalty for that if you are caught. See the offer of accommodation on Trip Advisor.
Salzburg is a city with a rich history, table, and culture, kind people, and caterers who will do anything just to be stabbing you.
You need a little to love him. It is surrounded by the Alps and lakes, has only 150,000 inhabitants, and about five million tourists pass through it annually. You can walk it or cross it by bike if you eat well before that … Several respectable families keep hotel chains here where you can stay. And, if you are for a “less fancy” variant, hostels are available … even tents.
For lovers of culture and art, Salzburg is a real treat and nature lovers will simply be fascinated because the nature that surrounds it is beautiful. See the offer of accommodation on TripAdvisor.
Alta, Utah, US
Here is a destination only for skiers including Nordic skiing. It is Alta, an town in eastern Salt Lake City, in Utah, one of the oldest ski resorts in America. Utah is home to large mountains, thousands of acres of ski terrain, and everything from top places to small local hills with just daily amenities.
Alta has a lot of wide promenades that make excellent ski slopes for intermediates. Although loved by advanced skiers, “Alta is a mountain for everyone” (except for snowboarders). What is especially nice are the Alta-Lodge accommodations whose rooms are simple, e.g. no TV. Meals, however, can be surprising: such as chocolate whiskey dessert. Alta Lodge offers programs for children, including apres-ski, children’s dinner, and evening activities.
What will especially surprise you is the huge amount of snow that falls in this area. See the Alta page for more information.
We hope that we have made it a little easier for you to choose your destination for winter. We hope you have a good time. Enjoy the magic of winter!
