To save money on flights to Montenegro, it is better to get into Dubrovnik airport in Croatia, which is just 20 minutes from the Montenegrin border.

The Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Montenegro is during May, June, September, or October. You’ll benefit from lower prices, no traffic, and no crowds.

The milder temperatures of these months also make exploring Montenegro much more pleasant.

Avoid July and August because it is the peak of the season and the temperature goes over 40 °C!
The winter months are also a nice period to visit because the winters are mild and there is a lot snow in the mountains.

Rich history and Culture

Montenegro has a very long and exciting history. Because the country has felt the influence of many cultures, Montenegrins today are proud, warm, and generous people who are open to all.

The religious heritage of this country is especially rich and meaningful. A large number of  monuments and monasteries have been preserved to this day.

The famous monasteries of Moraca, Piva, Sveta Trojica, Djurdjevi stupovi, Savina and Ostrog attract tourists from all over the world.

The largest concentration of rich cultural heritage is located in the Bay of Kotor, which is why this city is included in the list of world cultural heritage by UNESCO.

  1. Once again, you have found us another stunning location for a holiday. Thank you for doing the research and showing how affordable it is to travel in Montenegro.
I have been as close as Venice (in the north) and Thessaloniki (in the south) but have not explored the region in between, yet!

I was going to plan a trip to Croatia before the pandemic, but it has not happened yet. It will have to wait until international travel returns to normal, and then I think I would like to travel this whole region.
The scenery looks so beautiful, and the heritage with buildings like the Cathedral of Christ’s resurrection make this an easy choice for an extended holiday.

Thanks for inspiring me to want to travel again, sooner rather than later.

    • Hi Andrew! So glad that Montenegro will be one of the options for your travels in the future. Croatia is also stunning. By the way, the whole region of the Balkans is absolutely beautiful and we will dedicate to each country individually in the following posts. Just keep following and all the best!

  2. Montenegro looks absolutely wonderful! We are planning a trip within the next year once Covid has subsided and will definitely keep your website in mind. In fact, I’m sending it to my son who recently was married and are in the process of figuring out where they should spend their honeymoon. I’m sure Montenegro will be one of their top choices.

Thanks for such an inclusive post. I don’t think I’ll need to search anything else if we plan to visit Montenegro!

    • Hi Nina! Congratulations on your son’s wedding. Yes, Montenegro is a great honeymoon destination. We especially recommend one of the cottages in the north where newlyweds can enjoy good wine and the crackling fire. Keep following and enjoy more inclusive posts!

  3. What a beautiful country! Terribly miss travelling and there are so many on my list.

A month would not be sufficient for such a beauty like Montenegro.

Loved that you highlighted the things to do/places to go. I’m a nature lover, so I totally love the place already. Also, I like that you recommended affordable accommodations in the various places in Montenegro.

Budget travelling is way fun, I think there’s a higher chance to get closer to the locals too. That way you can learn the culture much better.

I’ll bookmark this page for sure. Thanks for sharing about lovely Montenegro.
